Sea lions provide valuable data
Tagged Australian sea lions have collected over 7,000 temperature and depth profiles off the South Australian coast from November 2009 to May 2010.
This data provides unprecedented detail on the spatial and temporal extent of the upwelling in this region.
The last week of data collected (displayed at the end of the video clip) identifies a breakdown of a thermocline that had extended across the shelf for the previous six months.
This information provides MISA scientists with a rare insight, allowing them to better understand our ocean processes.
