CONSTRUCTION on the expansion of the Lincoln Marine Science Centre is on target to begin in 2007.

Partners in the multi-million dollar Marine Innovations South Australia project, Flinders University and the South Australian Research and Development Institute, have finished the schematic design phase, including a layout and estimated cost.

They are now waiting for the design to be signed off by the new State Cabinet, which should happen by the end of April.

Flinders University building and property division manager Graham Dickson said the next step would be more detailed designs.

Mr Dickson said the partners expected to put the project out for tender in October ready for construction to begin next year.

The expansion is expected to include more parking, teaching facilities, office and laboratory space, pool and tank areas, a library and an auditorium.

The expanded centre would look at moving into pre-commercial activities such as pre-grow out and taking research and development up to industrial scale.
