Amazing marine science on the EP

1 October 2007

The latest innovations in marine science supporting industries on the Eyre Peninsula will be highlighted at a public seminar to be held in Port Lincoln on Tuesday (October 2).

The seminar, presented by Marine Innovation SA (MISA), will be supported by a display in the Rotary Gallery of research projects that are based at the Lincoln Marine Science Centre involving MISA partners – Flinders University, SARDI, PIRSA and TafeSA.

The presentation will look at why Port Lincoln is the national focus for Australia’s aquaculture production and innovation, the sustainability of our wild fisheries, protecting our marine resources from pests and diseases and the exciting new tools that are being used to ensure our seas remain ‘clean and green.’

Tertiary and vocational training opportunities available to the region’s current and future generations will also be discussed, as well as an update on the $6.6 million expansion of the Lincoln Marine Science Centre and Port Lincoln’s critical role as a future centre of excellence in marine science research.

The free event will be held in the Nautilus Theatre, Civic Hall, Tasman Terrace, on Tuesday 2nd October from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. The formal presentation starts at 5.30 p.m.

Marine Innovation SA, an initiative of the State Government, aims to position South Australia as a world class centre for marine science, education and industry development.
